From Australian to the UK - we caught up with Jennifer who took a step back from sewing & being inspired by instagram to tell us about her creative career.
Have you always wanted to work in the creative industry? If yes, can you tell us why? If not, how did you land your current position?
Most definitely. I’ve tried working with numbers (I even completed a degree in finance), but I’ve always found comfort in drawing, writing, sewing… creating.
What has been your biggest achievement to date and why?
I'd like to stay optimistic and think the best is yet to come ;)
What would you describe as you biggest obstacle so far?
Moving abroad was a hard one. Leaving friends, family and contacts in Melbourne for the unknown lands of Leeds was perhaps a career setback, but an exciting decision nevertheless. Now living in London, I have a greater appreciation of the diverse nuances of English life.
Taking a lighter note what and who inspires your creative process?
A walk in the local cemetery. Getting lost in some music. Flicking through old reference books. Doing at least one of these things usually kickstarts the brain into 'unthinking' thinking. If all else fails: scroll through Instagram.
What three tips would you give your younger self?
There's little point to worrying. Don't take crap from anyone. And procrastinate less!
