Andy Ayim

We caught up with Andy Ayim to discuss his journey navigating the creative industry as a non technical creative!

Are you currently working on a personal project?

I am currently running a service called This is an advisory service for non technical founders creating startups. With support on hiring and working with developers with a Product-led approach.

This service is valuable in saving money and time for founders who can't code and have never worked with developers.

What led you to work on your current project?Have you always wanted to work in the creative industry? If yes, can you tell us why? If not, how did you land your current position?

No I didn't. As a child I had no relevant role models within my reach that I could relate to who worked in Creative Industries.

I co-founded a music discovery and streaming platform called Mixtape Madness which achieved over half a billion streams when I left 3 years ago. This was my introduction into tech and Product Management.

What has been your biggest achievement to date and why?

Co-founding Mixtape Madness and working with partners like Spotify as well as growing a registered customer base of 250,000 fans of UK Grime and Hip Hop.

What would you describe as you biggest obstacle so far?

Being my authentic self in the workplace and not compromising who I am or what I value.

Taking a lighter note what and who inspires your creative process?

I am inspired by the global influence   of black culture that has transcended music and entertainment to even breakthrough into startups and investors.

Only recently Ikea bought Task Rabbit, the CEO of Task Rabbit is a black woman named Stacey Brown-Philpot. Walker & Co is a black owned startup by Tristan Walker and Nas leads Queensbridge Ventures, a VC that has invested in Genius, Casper and Dropbox. We have to celebrate and contribute to this narrative. That motivates me!

What three tips would you give your younger self?

If not me, who? If not now, when?
Save with discipline
Deliver value consistently

What words of wisdom do you have for other creatives?

If the fox chases two rabbits it is likely to catch neither one.

If you had the opportunity to get a message across to a large group of people, what would you message be?

Stories about the intersection of Culture x Investors x Startups.

What legacy would you like to leave behind?

I want increase VC investment from more than 1% into black owned startups!! This is an injustice and deprives the market from a diversity of thought.
